In 2021, Turkish construction companies have undertaken 413 overseas projects with a total worth of US$30.7 billion in 69 different countries. According to a new report published by the Turkish Contractors’ Association (TMB), this significant performance was in line with an overall recovery in the global market as the pandemic gets under control.
Turkish companies’ largest market in 2021 was Russia hosting 36.4 percent of projects in terms of value. Russia was followed by Iraq (11.9 percent), Tanzania (6.2 percent), Ukraine (5.2 percent), Zambia (4.4 percent) and South Sudan (4.0 percent).
With regard to the nature of work undertaken, power plant projects topped the list with 25.9 percent of the total volume in terms of value, followed by railroad projects (15.0 percent); roads, bridges and tunnels (14.2 percent); housing (9.9 percent) and water treatment facilities (9.0 percent).
Over the period between 1972 and 2021 Turkish contractors have undertaken a total of 11,125 projects in 131 different countries, with a total worth of US$453 billion. Turkey is also one of the world’s leading producers of construction materials.
