Turkey’s merchandise exports up by 32.8 pct in 2021

Turkey’s merchandise exports increased by 32.8 percent over 2021 reaching a total volume of US$225.3 billion. Over the same period merchandise imports went up by 23.6 percent to US$271.4 billion.

According to data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute, Turkey’s largest export market in 2021 was Germany with a volume of US$19.3 billion, followed by the United States (US$14.7 billion), United Kingdom (US$13.7 billion), Italy (US$11.5 billion) and Iraq (US$11.1 billion).

Turkey’s largest major chapters in 2021 were motor vehicles and parts thereof (US$25.0 billion); boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances (US$20.8 billion); iron and steel (US$17.1 billion); electrical machinery and parts thereof (US$12.0 billion); precious stones and metals (US$11.0 billion).

In 2021, Turkey’s main source of merchandise imports were China with a volume of US$32.2 billion, followed by the Russian Federation (US$29.0 billion), Germany (US$21.8 billion), the United States (US$13.2 billion), and Italy (US$11.6 billion).

Turkey’s main import chapters in 2021 were mineral fuels (US$50.7 billion); boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances (US$31.0); iron and steel (US$27.6 billion); electrical machinery and parts thereof (US$20.0 billion); plastics (US$17.6 billion).
